About Indian Electronica
Who we are
This website was founded in 2003 by Qasim Virjee - a Canadian audio-visualist and web producer. Since its early roots as a simple zine chronicling developments in the music we showcase, indianelectronica.com has grown in scope and through fostering a community of industry professionals and music enthusiasts.
Though we are based in Toronto, our large online community and network of friends and supporters is international and multi-cultural; in turn allowing us to continue producing the site and our annual series of music festivals.

Our music
Initially popularised in the mid 1990s with the UK's Asian Underground movement, the music of Indian Electronica is expressive of an increasingly complex global identity. Indian Electronica music fuses 'East' and 'West' using technology and tradition to produce some of the World's most innovatively emotive and exciting sounds.
Indian Electronica is not a genre; instead, it is a loose term referring to electronic music/IDM which exhibits an influence/characteristics of South Asian musical tradition - be it percussion, vocal styling, harmonic elements and so on.
