ie06 London

On Aug 26th, 2006 the festival hit London and was held be a stone's throw away from where the term 'Asian Underground' emerged - Talvin Singh's famous Anokha nights used to be held at the Blue Note, which was located around the corner from 333 Mother, our venue as hosted by 'Friction' - the monthly residency of BBC Radio1 and Asian Network host Bobby Friction.

We had 17 acts perform on 2 sound stages and over 600 people attended the event! The whole shebang was recorded by the BBC Asian Network for broadcast on their Friction, Electro East and Pathaan's Musical Rickshaw shows over 7 days - dubbed their 'Indian Electronica Week.'

Bandish Projekt

Originating from Gujarat (India), Bandish Projekt was formed out of a love for musical experimentation and a vocabulary which draws on Asian traditional & contemporary sounds.

Mayur and Udyan came together in the late 90's in Ahmedabad city to “redefine the sounds of India” and in the last seven years their music has taken them far and wide across the globe for festivals, clubs, Theatre productions with established artists, movies and albums have kept them busy recreating sounds that you have to keep listening. more »

Bobby Friction

Known around the world for his colorful antics (which have earned him a Sony Academy music award!) on 'Bobby and Nihal Present...' (BBC Radio1), Bobby has recently additionally undertaken a daily show on the BBC Asian Network! Though he might be busy on the FM dial, Bobby's roots are as a club DJ and he was there first-hand to witness an explosion of South Asian artistic expression through the 90s in the UK. more »

Dr Das

Bassist and producer Dr Das was one of the founder members of ADF which emerged out of music workshops he was running in London back in 1993. He retired from ADF at the end of March 2006 to to return to his exploration of dub related and experimental world music and to engage in new collaborations. more »

Eagle-i

Eagle-I aka Asuf Ishaq is a British Asian dj/producer who now resides in Amsterdam, during the mid '90's in London he experienced the rise of Brit/Asian music culture, at the time he was studying for his graphic design masters degree, he contributed design work to 2nd generation magazine, a South Asian music, culture and politics magazine. more »

Janaka Selekta

In a city overflowing with talented DJs, Janaka’s skills were recognized by the San Francisco community in 2004 when he received the Reader’s Poll Award for Best DJ (SF Guardian). Bringing a dancer’s sensibility to the decks, Janaka deconstructs each track merging and beat juggling parts to build crescendoes and diminuendoes.

Constantly working the tracks and the mixer to make any dancefloor bounce. His unique sound weaves original songs and homemade bootlegs with floor stomping tracks from around the planet. more »

Nerm

From the front-man of Indo-punk band Charged to headline DJ in the Swaraj roster, Nerm has been on the alternative Asian music scene for years. Forever challenging what was accepted as "Asian" music and art, Nerm's signature was to mix anything, to bring out the punk in most forms of music and rock dance floor across the world. more »

Shree

Shree's travels across the globe have finally landed him in Vienna, Austria where he spends most of his days spreading mad Desi vibes at the United Nations. As part of the Ethnotechno.com crew, he joins in Dimmsummer's quest to make ET the most comprehensive site on the web for global electronica resources.

Shree has no idea why electronic dance music makes so much sense to him but he thinks that nicking his older brother's Depeche Mode, Human League and New Order records as a kid had something to do with it. more »

Sonik Gurus

This UK based duo have recorded together since 2001 and performed all over the world - including Mexico City, Caracas (Venezuela), Toronto, NYC and even Krakow and Warsaw, Poland!

They have released music on numerous labels including Sony India, Envy, V2, and Virgin, recorded for such distinguished projects as Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber's Bollywood Dreams musical and are about to debut their full-length album on fellow-Committee member Pathaan's Globetronica imprint! more »

Visionary Underground

VU are a technology based, diverse collective who aim to innovate and entertain, as they play their own unique fusion of nu skool breaks, drumnbass, hip hop, ragga, soul, dub roots and Asian (Indian) vibes, accompanied always by interactive visuals.

Making up the core band are founders DJ FeelFree and VJ Coco alongside vocalist Damion Mulrain and MC Mikie. Additionally also, many other guest artists have joined the group along the way for the making of the debut album Keep The Grime On.

Yam Boy
